Turner, Edith

   University of Virginia symbolic anthropologist who has written extensively about indigenous healing practices in Africa and the Arctic. Turner’s reflections on her participation in healing work among the Ndembu of Zambia and the Inupiat of Alaska have been important contributions to new experiential approaches to ethnography and knowledge. She demonstrates the value of an understanding of indigenous knowledge of taking the existence and activities of spirits seriously.
